Aslak Somby (1913-2008) was a Sámi author and joiker, born in Karasjok and spent most of his life in Sirma, Tana. He was a reindeer herder until the mid-1970s, after which he settled permanently in Sirma. Somby was married to Karen Kristine Somby and they had four children. He released a joik LP in 1985 and published the book 'Jávvasan Goahttesajit' in 1996, which offers rare insights into reindeer herding life.
