Astha Laxmi Shakya is a prominent Nepalese politician and the first woman to serve as Chief Minister of Bagmati Province. She was appointed on 18 August 2021 after being unanimously elected as the leader of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party. Shakya has held various ministerial positions, including Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare and Minister for Industry. In addition, she was nominated as a candidate in the 2023 vice presidential election. Shakya is also the vice-president of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist).
