He graduated from Jakob Westholm Gymnasium in 1950 and from Estonian Agricultural Academy specializing in agricultural mechanization in 1955. His professional career included positions as a chief engineer in the Passenger Transport Authority of the Ministry of Transport and Roads of the Estonian SSR, and later at the Republican Union 'Eesti Autoveod'. He passed away on March 20, 1998, and is buried at Pärnamäe cemetery.
