Atalay Filiz is a suspected Turkish serial killer, born on June 2, 1986, in Bandırma. He allegedly shot two people in Ankara in 2013 and stabbed a woman in Tuzla in 2016. Following a nationwide manhunt, he was arrested in June 2016. Filiz, who studied in Paris, claimed to be working on a biology thesis while living in Ankara. His violent actions seem to be influenced by crime novels he read. Turkish media extensively covered his crimes and his attempts to evade capture, with reports of various false sightings while he hid in İzmir's forests.
