Atanas Skatov was a Bulgarian mountaineer and vegan agronomist specialized in plant protection. He climbed ten of the fourteen eight-thousanders, including summiting Everest twice, with one ascent made without supplemental oxygen. Skatov was the first Bulgarian to reach the Seven Summits from 2013 to 2017 and the first vegan to summit Everest. He tragically died on February 5, 2021, during an unsuccessful attempt to climb K2 when he fell while descending from Camp 3.
