Aubrey Levin, born on December 18, 1938, is a South African-born Canadian psychiatrist who was formerly a Colonel in the South African Defence Force. During the apartheid era, he infamously employed abusive methods, including electroshock and chemical castration, on homosexual conscripts and conscientious objectors in an attempt to 'cure' them. After moving to Canada in 1995, he became a professor of clinical psychiatry at the University of Calgary. In 2010, he was convicted of sexual assault, leading to a prison sentence and suspension of his medical license.
