August Anton Freund was a German trade unionist born on June 19, 1926, in Miesbach. After serving in World War II, he trained as a bank clerk and worked in this profession until 1953, when he transitioned to the public service at the Landratsamt Miesbach. Freund became involved with the ÖTV union in 1952, holding various positions, including regional secretary and state chairman of ÖTV in Bavaria from 1980 to 1988. He was also a member of the Bavarian Senate and received the Bavarian Order of Merit.
