August Nærø was a Norwegian sailor who served in the Shetland Bus during World War II. He embarked on secret transport missions between Norway and Shetland, making over sixty dangerous trips across the North Sea from 1941 to 1945. He was involved in transporting agents, spies, equipment, and weapons, often in harsh winter conditions. After the war, Nærø's contributions were largely forgotten until his name was honored in 2015 with a new class of patrol boats named after him, with his widow serving as godmother during the naming ceremony.
