Auguste Roch Nkounkou was the first black priest of the Catholic clergy in the Diocese of Brazzaville. Born on May 11, 1909, in Songavoula, he was a significant figure in the Catholic Church in Africa. He was ordained a priest on May 29, 1938, and later founded the Saint-Michel parish in Goma Tsétsé in 1947, which serves as a sanctuary dedicated to the archangel Michael for the entire African region. He passed away on July 3, 1982, in Brazzaville.
