She was married to fellow teacher Aate Vireini Perälä from 1937 to 1967, and they published a joint poetry collection titled 'Sumukehrät' in 1942. Perälä taught at various schools before retiring in 1970. Her poem 'Rauhaa, vain rauhaa kellot ne soi,' written in the late 1940s, was later set to music by composer Ahti Sonninen and released in 1952.
