Ayman Nofal, also known as Abu Ahmad, was a Palestinian leader in Hamas and a member of the military council, serving as commander of the Central Brigade of Al-Qassam Brigades. He played a significant role in developing Hamas's rocket system and was involved in planning the capture of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, alongside other attacks against Israeli forces. Nofal was imprisoned multiple times, including under Israeli and Palestinian authorities, and was eventually killed by an Israeli airstrike on October 17, 2023, during the Al-Aqsa Flood battle.
