B. D. Rampala, born Bamunusinghearachchige Don Rampala on 14 November 1910, was a prominent chief mechanical engineer and general manager of Sri Lanka Railways. He made history as the first native Sri Lankan to serve as the chief mechanical engineer. His expertise in diesel engineering was recognized internationally when the Institution of Locomotive Engineers in London named him the finest diesel engineer in Asia in 1956. Rampala's contributions significantly advanced railway engineering in Sri Lanka.
