He served as a Member of Rajya Sabha from July 2010 to July 2016 and was involved in promoting socialism and secularism. His early education was followed by higher studies in Kolkata and Moscow. Throughout his career, he was associated with various political parties, including CPI, Congress, and Samajwadi Party, before joining BJD in 2008. He authored several books and translated many Russian classics into Oriya, advocating for social justice and political reform until his death from cancer on November 22, 2018.
