She contributed to various publications and served as the editorial secretary of Lanthemmet. A graduate of Uppsala University, she was the daughter of journalist Simon Brandell and author Elin Brandell. Barbro was married to linguist Åke Josephson and had three children. She passed away on September 30, 1975, and is buried at Råcksta cemetery in Stockholm.
