Barend Abraham Jacob Cohen was a Dutch forensic physician of Jewish descent, recognized as a pioneer in forensic medicine education in the Netherlands. He was actively involved in human rights, a passion rooted in his early life spent in a Japanese concentration camp. Disheartened by Dutch doctors' ignorance of autopsy procedures in the 1970s, he published numerous books to address this. Cohen conducted fieldwork in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia and taught forensic medicine courses in Indonesia.
