Barend Jacobus du Plessis is a former South African politician and a former member of the National Party. He served as the Minister of Finance from 1984 until 1992. He was born on January 19, 1940, in Johannesburg, South Africa. His parents were Jan Hendrik and Martie du Plessis. Du Plessis was married to Antoinette, but they later divorced, and they have four children together. He is also the brother of businessman Attie du Plessis.
