Barry Ries is an American jazz trumpeter and horn player born on March 16, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He began playing drums under his father's tutelage before switching to trumpet at age 11. Ries studied music at the University of North Texas, joining the One O’Clock Band before performing with regional rock bands and notable jazz musicians like Ira Sullivan, Woody Herman, and Gerry Mulligan. In 1998, he debuted as a bandleader with 'Solitude in the Crowd,' featuring prominent artists such as Joe Lovano and Michael Cochrane.
