Bartholomeus Jacobus 'Bartho' Smit (1924–1986) was a South African writer, poet, playwright, and director, known as one of the Sestigers, a group of Afrikaans artists. Throughout his life, he received notable awards including the Hertzog Prize, Perskor Prize, and an Encyclopaedia Britannica Award for his contributions to Afrikaans literature. He also wrote under the pseudonym Herman Smal.
