Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti was an Iraqi politician and half-brother of former President Saddam Hussein. He served as the deputy director of the intelligence agency before becoming its head in 1976. Barzan was involved in various political roles, including serving as Iraq's ambassador to the UN in Geneva. He was arrested by US forces in 2003, later tried and sentenced to death for crimes against humanity related to the al-Dujail massacre. He was executed by hanging on January 15, 2007, and buried in his hometown of Tikrit.
