Basil Al Bayati (born 1946) is an Iraqi architect and designer born in Baghdad, who has spent most of his life in Europe, particularly London. Described by Neil Bingham as an architect where East meets West, he is considered a pioneer of metaphorical architecture, using measurement and metaphor in architectural inspiration. He invented the 'intermediary mechanism' for generating forms in design and works on furniture and art pieces using various techniques. Al Bayati has authored nine books focused primarily on architecture, blending fiction and autobiography. He currently resides in Malaga, Spain, where he manages a cultural center.
