Batyrkhan Shukenov was a prominent Kazakhstani and Russian singer, musician, composer, and poet, born on May 18, 1962, in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan. He was the founding member and lead singer of the pop band A-Studio from 1987 until 2000, after which he launched a successful solo career. Shukenov joined the Soviet Army in 1985 and was recognized as a 'Worker of Arts in Kazakhstan' in 2010. He served as UNICEF's first goodwill ambassador in Kazakhstan from 2009 until his passing on April 28, 2015, at age 52, due to a heart attack.
