She became a victim of extrajudicial execution by the Salvadoran army at the end of the Salvadoran Civil War on September 10, 1990. Her case highlights issues of justice concerning crimes against humanity committed during the war and is documented in the Report of the Truth Commission for El Salvador. She was killed while providing medical assistance in combat, being seven months pregnant at the time.
