Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III was a Filipino politician who served as the 15th president of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016. He was a fourth-generation politician and chaired the Liberal Party during his presidency. Aquino announced his candidacy for the 2010 presidential election on September 9, 2009, shortly after his mother's death. He was elected and took office on June 30, 2010, succeeding Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Aquino completed his term on June 30, 2016, and was succeeded by Rodrigo Duterte. Time magazine recognized him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2013.
