Benjamín Alvarado Biester was a Colombian engineer, geologist, scientist, and consultant born in Bogotá in 1908. He was the founder and first director of the Colombian Geological Service. He promoted industrialization in Colombia, serving as the chief geologist at the Industrial Promotion Institute and as the chief geologist and first technical deputy manager of Acerías Paz del Río. Additionally, he advised the Colombian government on the reversion of the Mares Concession, which led to the establishment of Ecopetrol.
