Benny Thomasson was an influential American fiddler born on April 22, 1909, in Winters, Texas. He grew up in a musical family and began playing the fiddle at the age of three. By 14, he was competing in fiddle contests, ultimately winning his first competition at 19. A notable figure in the 'Texas Style' of fiddling, he won the Texas State Championship fifteen times and received awards at prestigious festivals. After retiring, he taught music in Washington and mentored young musicians, including Mark O’Connor. Thomasson was inducted into the National Fiddler Hall of Fame in 2013.
