Jacobsen served as a parish priest in various locations including Sandoy and London. He held several positions in education and media and has been a priest in the Faroese congregation in Copenhagen since 1995. Jacobsen was also the Minister of Culture and Education for the Faroe Islands from April 24, 1993, to September 15, 1994.
