Aregawi won a silver medal in the 10000 meters at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, finishing with a time of 26:43.44, behind Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei. He also placed fourth in the 10000 meters at the 2020 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships. At 17, he earned a bronze medal at the 2018 World U20 Championships.
