Berkin Elvan (January 5, 1999 - March 11, 2014) was a Kurdish Turkish boy who was critically injured by a tear gas canister shot by a police officer during anti-government protests in Turkey in June 2013. His health deteriorated significantly in the last week of his life, and he weighed only 16 kg at the time of his death on March 11, 2014. His death sparked widespread protests, and he was buried in the Feriköy cemetery in Istanbul.
