Bernd Schirmer, born on February 23, 1940, in Leipzig, is a German author and dramaturg. He spent his early years in Scheibenberg, completing his education in German studies and English studies at Karl-Marx-Universität Leipzig. He worked as a radio play dramaturg in Berlin, later taught at the University of Algiers, and served as a dramaturg for German television until becoming a freelance author. Schirmer is a member of PEN Center Germany and currently resides in Waldesruh, Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten.
