Bill Aitken is a Scottish politician and member of the Conservative Party, born on April 15, 1947, in Glasgow. He attended Allan Glen's School and worked in the insurance industry. Aitken served as a Conservative councillor for Glasgow from 1976 to 1996, including stints as opposition leader. He was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Glasgow in 1993. Although he failed to win the Glasgow Anniesland seat in the 1999 Scottish Parliament elections, he entered the Parliament through the regional list and was re-elected in 2003 and 2007, later announcing he would not seek re-election in 2010.
