William L. Jones was an American college basketball coach and athletic director, best known for his tenure at North Alabama from 1974 to 1988. He led the Lions to a national championship in 1979, making history as the first team from Alabama to win one. Over his coaching career, he achieved three regular season championships and six NCAA Tournament appearances with a notable record of 251–141. After retiring from coaching, he served as North Alabama's first full-time athletic director for six years before his passing in 2008.
