He is best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the rock band Green Day, which he co-founded with Mike Dirnt in 1987. Armstrong has also appeared in films such as Shoot 'Em Up (2007), The Simpsons Movie (2007), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), and American Idiot. His contributions to music have made him a prominent figure in punk rock.
