Biren Mitra was an influential Indian politician and a leader of the Indian National Congress. He served as the Chief Minister of Odisha from October 2, 1963, to February 21, 1965. Born on November 26, 1917, in a Hindu Karan family, Mitra's political journey began with the All India Students Federation, linked to the Communist Party of India. In recognition of his contributions, Biren Mitra Park in Cuttack is named after him.
