He graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology in 1948 and then worked at various institutions, including the aeronautical engineering department and AB Bofors. He studied in the USA in 1959 and later became a professor of control engineering at Chalmers University of Technology in 1962. Qvarnström passed away on December 6, 2012, in Partille.
