She worked as a journalist for several newspapers, actively reporting on the Vietnam War and Palestinian issues. After studying in the USA from 1968 to 1969, she freelanced in the United States and Hong Kong until 1971, when she joined Dagens Nyheter. Albons later became a nurse, graduating in 1983 and working with the Palestine Red Crescent from 1986 until her death on June 24, 2007.
