She was the daughter of garden architect Jarl Högsell and Anna Sjöberg. Högsell studied at various art schools, including Skånska målarskolan and Otte Skölds målarskola, and learned from André Lhote in Paris. Her artwork included still lifes, figure studies, and landscapes created in oil, watercolor, or pastel. She also worked as an illustrator for literature, including Gunnar Sundman's 'Vi se på Egypten solskenets land.'
