He served as a professor of clinical psychology at the University of Oslo from 1985 and became professor emeritus in 1997. Killingmo was a leading figure in establishing internal clinics at the Psychological Institute and led the Clinic for Dynamic Psychotherapy at the University of Oslo for many years.
