Blanca Silveira Barrios (July 12, 1905 – February 6, 1989) is considered the first Venezuelan astronomer and founder of the Sociedad Astronómica de Venezuela (SAV), chapter Lara. Despite being wheelchair-bound from an early age due to meningitis, she was respected for her extensive knowledge in astronomy, earning a reputation akin to that of Stephen Hawking. In Venezuela, academic degrees in astronomy did not exist, and those who practiced it typically held degrees in physics, mathematics, or chemistry, developing their expertise through research and theses, as exemplified by Silveira.
