He gained fame in the 1960s and 1970s, writing and producing for artists such as Betty Wright and KC & the Sunshine Band. He was also known for recording his own songs, including 'Nobody But You Babe.' Reid faced terminal liver cancer in early 2016 and passed away on January 17, 2016, shortly after announcing his last album, '77 Trombons.'
