Robert Lee McCoy was an American basketball player and coach born on November 28, 1934, in Longville, Louisiana. He played for the Grambling State Tigers from 1953 to 1957, setting a Louisiana state record with 34 rebounds in one game. McCoy was selected 10th overall in the 1957 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons, becoming the first black player from Louisiana to be drafted. Though he faced difficulties breaking into the NBA roster, he later served in the Army and became a teacher and coach at various high schools until 1970.
