He proved Egoroff's theorem for the Brouwer integral and worked at the Mathematical Institute in Amsterdam. Later, he became a professor of pure mathematics and analysis at Wageningen, mentoring numerous PhD students and publishing extensively. After retiring in 1988, he returned to Amsterdam, where he passed away in 2006.
