Bobby Gimby was a notable Canadian bandleader, trumpeter, and songwriter, born on October 24, 1918, in Cabri, Saskatchewan, and passed away on June 20, 1998, in North Bay, Ontario. He began playing the trumpet in childhood, later forming his own band in Toronto during the mid-1940s. Gimby gained prominence with his CBC show, 'The Bobby Gimby Show', starting in 1949. He famously composed 'Malaysia Forever' for the formation of the Malaysian Federation in 1963 and 'Canada' for Canada's centennial in 1967, the latter becoming a popular song. He was awarded the Order of Canada.
