Robert 'Bobby' Plater was an American jazz musician known for his work as an alto saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist within the swing genre. He began playing the alto saxophone at the age of twelve and performed with Donald Lambert and the Savoy Dictators early in his career. Plater served in the US military during World War II and played with notable figures such as Tiny Bradshaw and Lionel Hampton. He is most recognized for his time with the Count Basie Orchestra from 1964 until his death, and composed The Jersey Bounce.
