She is a geophysicist by profession and has been serving as the president of the National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control (CNCAN) since March 3, 2008. Vajda gained her political position as a senator for Călărași representing the UDMR after the redistribution of votes in the 2000 legislative elections, serving from 2000 to 2004.
