Boris Dekanidze was a Georgian-born leader of the Vilnius Brigade, a Lithuanian criminal organization involved in various illegal activities including money laundering and extortion. Born on December 13, 1962, in Vilnius, he rose to prominence in the early 1990s. He was sentenced to death in 1994 for orchestrating the assassination of journalist Vitas Lingys, who had faced threats for reporting on organized crime. Dekanidze was executed on July 12, 1995, becoming the last person to be executed in Lithuania before the abolition of the death penalty in 1998.
