He began his public service career in 2010 as an assistant to Viktor Pleskachevsky, a deputy of the 5th State Duma. Gladkikh later served as a deputy in the Legislative Duma of Khabarovsk Krai from 2014 to 2016. He was elected to the 7th State Duma on September 18, 2016, from the Khabarovsk constituency and was re-elected for the 8th State Duma in September 2021.
