Boris Matchin is a Russian-German cellist born on February 4, 1971, in Moscow. He studied at prestigious institutions such as the Gnessin State Musical College, Rubin Academy, Manhattan School of Music, and Berlin University of the Arts. Since 1997, he has been residing and working in Hamburg. He succeeded Emil Klein as the principal cellist and artistic director of the Hamburg Soloists chamber orchestra after Klein's death in 2004. Matchin is also a member of the Hamburg cello duo and the Nathan Quartet, and contributed to Lacrimosa's album 'Lichtgestalt' in 2005.
