Borys Onishchenko is a former Ukrainian-Soviet modern pentathlete born on September 19, 1937, in Beresnjaky, Ukraine. He was an Olympic champion in team events in 1972 and won a silver medal in individual competition at the same Olympics. He gained notoriety in 1976 for manipulating his fencing weapon during the Olympic Games, leading to his disqualification. After a successful career, including multiple world championships, he faced severe consequences for his actions, including being dishonorably discharged from the Soviet Army. He later lived as a taxi driver and eventually retired in Kyiv.
