He was renowned for his works in horror literature, with several prestigious awards received throughout his literary career. Lumley served in the British Army's Royal Military Police before dedicating himself entirely to writing. He was a prominent contributor to H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and authored many other horror novels. Additionally, he served as president of the Horror Writers Association during 1996 and 1997. He passed away on January 2, 2024.
