Bronisław Śliżyński was a Polish biologist and geneticist born on February 16, 1905, in Sucha. He studied zoology and botany at the Jagiellonian University, where he later became an assistant and lecturer in genetics. In 1936, he received a Rockefeller Foundation scholarship to study genetics in the US. During WWII, he taught at the University of Edinburgh and contributed significantly to classical genetics. Śliżyński was also active in the Polish scientific community in exile and was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 1973. He passed away in 1983 in Edinburgh.
